Overall Georgetown visit has been amazing. Infact it just dwells you into knowing more information about what is hiding behind the historical scene. It has been really a great blessing to be here to study the history of 200 years ago and also the scene in the present. It's more than a history textbooks for most of us. It's something which obviously i cannot experience back in KL.

The OBELISK

Review of Obelisk designing 2009.

Overall has been quite a creativity stirred session and since that my team has the name of Moulding Marvels, we decided to use Netwires to form the outer layer instead having a strong skeletal structure, but however with a pole in the center of it to support the overall structure.

In the sense of budget, i guess we are pretty thrifty with it because our wooden base cube material which is wood, is taken from the nearby construction site. While other materials costed around 80 bucks.

Intention - To build the obelisk
Act - To design and sketch the propose structure look.
Product - The obelisk itself.

Actor - Group members, me, jin bang, ken, king, wei pin.
Rules - Dimensions are set while the rule is to use recyclable materials.
Site - Tekun Basement as the workshop while the slope beside HEP as the platform for exhibition.

The materials used.
The sketch of the design..
The workshop going on..
The mid part of the assignment going on.

The exhibition.

The installation going on..

The product...
Overall i guess we are pretty satisfied with the end product as it is as what we have expected to use clothes as our design material. we didn't intend to use flat straight solid obelisk design because we use the function of the clothe itself to let our obelisk stand out by itself by having natural clothes curve to imitate the design of USM Apex LOGO.

6 Essential elements: The LOGO project

Few days ago HBP students just got their very own call to design their logos, which will be used in all studio submission throughout academic session.

But i guess in this case, most of us, our intention is to create something which has Immediate Recognition, a logo is meant to be part of the branding essentials, just like Red Cross.

And actor is me!

In this case, i could identify the act as to think creative and to be inspired the meaning and wonderful things a logo could do. and also, to figure out your philosophies of life and embed into the unique design.
Rules? Justification of Logo format according to commercial standard.and the final product? is a unique symbol which plays a deep meaning behind its owner.
And the site is on this A3 cartridge paper. which i use black borders to create the contrast effect.
My thoughts.
Actually i wanted it to give people an impression of artistic individual. I ws thinking circle logo is a little ordinary, so i took off a few sides, and formed the letter "G", which is my initial name. In another angle, it could be seen as a painting brush with palette. I tried making the G to be a palette shape sort of.. Green colour painting brush tip simply means sustainable design, Green design!

DONE!

15/7 Scale in the 6 properties

Hi there!!!

* Picture of BigBang night 09*

Today's Built Environment and Human Settlement lecture has been an eye opener again. Many new things flooding into my thoughts =) but somehow it was this part that caught me. Emphasizing the scale in the 6 properties.

Nano-> industrial design -> interior designer (ID) -> Architecture (architects) -> premise
(landscape architects) -> Urban design -> Regional planning -> Global governance -> Selecta

and each level of scale has their respective role to excel that area. However, Mr Wan Burhannudin mentioned that the need of understanding of the whole process and levels of construction, ideas, roles and maintenance. I certainly agreed with that.

Moreover, there are tendency for us to overlap in the working field contradicting with what we have studied.
Many often when i flip into the career section in The Star, i could see the vacancy for project engineer opened to civil engineers and architects as well. These only mean one thing that what we study does not really mean what we will do in the end as we could divert in so many ways. such as from the above flowchart, architects could play the role from ID till Regional Planning.

So in all in all, what we study is just a CERT, going out to the working world to survive, well, let's just say it takes more towards general knowledge. =)

The 6 Essential elements

I've learnt something important from my first Built Environment and Human Settlement class I guess.. I call it the 6 important transitions. I've known many other useful decision making methods such as SWOT but i guess this is the most basic one for everyone to know.

It goes like
Intention> Act > Product
Actor> Rule > Site

It kinda stirs up my philosphy minded to think that everything we do is according in such a way.
Actor> the character or party involved in getting the inspiration/intention
Intention> The "spark" to the start of something, whether from inspiration or responsibility.
Rule> Whether it is tradition or believes, there are guidelines to an effort.
Act> Every intention follows with a action.
Product> and every action ends with a result.
Site> Every product needs a destination or market or place, this is the final destination.

I love the idea that our beloved lecturer Mr Wan Burhanuddin gave, which is to blog about the 6 elements thoughts involve in the process to put this blog into existence. It simply just means that we are to be precise with our details to be excellent. Perhaps he is reminding us as HBP students to focus on detailings much, in our every aspect of life? Kinda reminds me the quote
Details determine Destiny
So here it goes... for the process do this blog..
Intention> To promote virtual networking and as assignments for students of HBP...
Actor>Students of HBP...
Rule> To strictly post things regarding to HBP assignments and not self usage blog..
Act> To start up a personal webpage or blog
Product> An online webpage!
Site> Virtual Site which is www.... I use blog though =)

It might sound easy actually to think such way but i believe when it comes to things at larger scale, putting this 6 elements thinking method could somehow really lead us to a faster problem solving path.
Thanks for the awesome lesson again Mr Wan Burhanuddin!!!
